The Approved Names Register
All children born in the NDRC must be given names from the Approved Names Register, maintained by the Ministry of Propaganda in consultation with the Department of Citizen Services.
Purpose
The Approved Names Register ensures that all citizens bear names that are consistent with the values and culture of the NDRC. Names that could be considered subversive, ideologically inappropriate, confusing for state databases, or culturally incompatible are excluded from the register.
How it works
When registering a newborn, parents must select a first name (given name) from the register. Surnames are inherited from the parents and are not subject to the register. Parents may select up to two given names from the register.
Categories of approved names
- Traditional names: Common names with established usage in the republic
- Patriotic names: Names inspired by the values of the republic (e.g., Honour, Diligence, Allegiance)
- Historical names: Names of approved historical figures who contributed to the republic's founding
- Nature names: Selected nature-inspired names deemed appropriate by the Ministry of Propaganda
Restricted names
The following categories of names are prohibited:
- "Carl": Reserved exclusively. May only be used with written dispensation from the Office of the Supreme Leader
- CLF-associated names: Names historically associated with CLF leaders or prominent dissidents
- Foreign names: Names from non-allied nations that are not on the approved list
- Numerical or symbolic names: Names that consist of numbers, symbols, or single letters
- Titles or ranks: Names that could be confused with military or government titles
Requesting a name addition
If a desired name is not on the register, parents may submit a Name Addition Request (Form NR-02) to the Ministry of Propaganda. Requests are reviewed within 60 working days. Approval rate is approximately 15%. Rejected requests may not be resubmitted for 12 months.
Accessing the register
The full Approved Names Register is available for viewing at all Registration Centres and CarlCare maternity facilities. An alphabetical listing is also available through this portal for authenticated citizens expecting a child. Contact your district Citizen Services office for access.
